Reading at Bernal Yoga on January 19

I'll be reading my short-short story, "Airspell," at the Bernal Yoga* Literary Series on Saturday, January 19, 7 p.m. I'll be reading for about 5 minutes, but, you know, it's part of a very festive bigger picture. The headliners are fiction writer Catherine Brady and poet Jessica Fisher.

Here is more information about the series:

And directions:

* No yoga will be performed.**
** Not by me, anyway.

The reading was so fun! I can't remember the last time I sat so long on a "bolster." I think I must have performed yoga. And, as you pointed out it was a great opportunity to get in touch with one's socks. I, too, need to go to Mervyn's!

More importantly I really enjoyed "Airspell," and learned a lot, e.g. the next time I end up sitting next to some crazy person on an airplane, who takes the delicate take-off/ landing time as an opportunity to express their genius, I will think: "They must be casting a spell for my protection, because they can tell how uncomfortable they are making me." I also liked the poem about the Orangina bottles. They do not know the year-long cradling of fruit!

Thanks so much for being there, Elif! It was great to see you...and I feel a bit guilty about the bolsters. I understand they usually have folding chairs but could not find them. Hmm.

I liked the Orangina poem too, and the one about the male spider and his desperate bit to live after mating.
